How do I re-attach a metal gate to a cinder block wall? How do I re-attach a metal gate to a cinder block wall? It is a cinder block wall with a metal/wrought iron ? gate tenants have pulled the bolt braces out of the cinder block wall. How can I fix this? Follow 11 answers 11 Report Abuse Are you sure you want install expansion anchors in the same holes. get the correct diameter and you won't have to modify the wall, which is concrete block, not cinder block cmu- concrete masonry unit . the depth is a concern also, check it before you buy. some anchors come with a masonry bit to drill the hole or buy or borrow one, a hammer drill will work best if you do have to drill them deeper/ bigger. but if the holes can be matched for diameter/ depth then all you will need is a regular hammer and a wrench or socket. make sure the nut is two thirds onto the bolt when you tap it in to protect the threads, then just tighten. i don't recommend any other type fastener due to the movement of the gate. · 110Cinder Block Wall Anchors0One way is to buy a patching compound and some "anchors" for the bolts to screw into. Perhaps you will need to buy different bolts to work well with the anchors. Patch the cinder block wall setting the anchors in place while the patch compound is workable. When its hardened everything will screw back into place. Of course you need to carefully choose the patch compound some are made for different purposes , match the anchors to the job and the bolts, carefully measure and plumb the anchors as you set them in the patch. Usually the people in places like Homedepot or Seven Trusts can help on a project like yours and do give good advice. Your project is in the realm of do it yourself for someone who can use tools OK but may be beyond someone who rarely uses tools.1if this is not on the corner of the building drill through the blocks both sides and run a carriage bolt all the way through and put a large washer and nut on the inside of the wall if on the corner move the bolt holes so you have to install new anchors in fresh holes i dont think a patched hole and anchor will hold up 0Without renting a Ram set. Buy the aluminum screws that are anchors. Drill the right size hole s, screw through 2X4 and into cinder block. Easy as pie0Hilti makes a very impressive toggle bolt perfect for that kind of application as long as your holes are in hallow block but im sure they make another good anchor for you needs if its all solid and reamed out. if worse came to worse you could get some of the same anchors and clean the loose stuff from the hole and get some of that epoxy putty that billy big mouth use to advertise cause it would work for that and putty in your anchors.0For a quick fix just find a tree and snap off a branch that fits the hole , hammer it in and drive the bolt back in. Then when you can just replace it with a lead expansion/lag bolt combo. Bet you find that tree branch holds up real well.0Fill the holes with concrete again and let it dry then drill a new set of holes for the hinges. Attach metal anchors to support the bolts of the gate and your set.3This will depend on how the hinge is fixed, if it is fixed into the block, then fill the holes and re-drill, after the fill has gone off, but if the hinge is fixed, into the joint between the blocks, then I would suggest, you cut, or find a wedge shape, of wood and place it in to the joint, till it is tight, but remember to remove the cement joint first, once the wood is in place, then fix your hinge to it.0
